I haven't been doing as much work for Janey as I normally do these past few weeks, Christmas is my excuse!

I have still been picking up vintage here and there though and for some reason shirts seem to have been coming my way.

These two chiffon shirts have the most gorgeous Peter Pan collars.

They remind me of a blouse my Grandma is wearing in a photograph that I have of her. She tells me that it was a lemon colour. I would utterly love to find one exactly like it.

I also met a lovely lady who used to have a boutique in the 70's, she still had lots of the clothes she used to sell and sold some of them to me. Amongst these were lots of shirts! Here are a few of my favourites.

I also acquired some sky blue chiffon and some beautiful vintage yellow interior fabric with bouquets of flowers randomly printed on. I drew up a design for a dress combining the two fabrics and drafted a pattern. Now I've uploaded it onto here its an incentive to get it sewn up! Hopefully if it works I can re-use the pattern with more stunning fabrics.

Just keep sewing sewing sewing....

I realise I am starting a trend of opening posts with twitterings (is that a word?) about the weather, which is very British of me, so I shall skip the comment about the first snow of the season and get straight to it.

I spent most of my weekend altering re-works and sewing up re-mades.
A few Re-works in the form of high waisted flippy mini skirts to add to the ridiculous amount I have sewn up already.
(Please ignore how badly some of these need ironing!)

And a few midi and maxi skirts that could also be worn as dresses with a waistbelt.

Re-mades, simple mini waisted dresses, again I think these always look best with a waistbelt, and a maxi which is floor length, I intend to make another of these in the same fabric with black lace in the back. (I have made a mini version with a lace back.)

Working in fabric buying, print sourcing and design always inspires me to look out for the quirkiest of colourful vintage fabrics and prints, I often think a simple cut in a beautiful fabric is all you need, over design is overkill so I let the fabrics speak for themselves.

  This one is vintage Liberty

As usual there is a bit of a floral theme, probably due to an afternoon sometime last week spent researching trend and colour predictions and swotting up on the latest designer collections, I have for the third/fourth/fifth time fallen in love with Ashish Gupta's S/S12 collection. Being a girl that pays great attention to detail I couldn't help but get excited over the use of glitter, clashing florals and boots filled with flowers!

And just 1 more thing, Dolce & Gabbana: Onions, Aubergines, courgettes and carrots! You either love it, or hate it. Janey hearts.

If you hate it at first glance you may find it grows on you...

A bit more vintage...

I've picked up and sewn a few things this week so I thought I'd share :)
Since its been so blustery these past few days I've been on the lookout for some snugly 80's vintage winter jumpers, here are two of my favourites.

I also picked up a beautiful beaded vintage evening dress, perfect for the festive season. She was a bit of a mess when I found her, with fraying seams and loose beads, but after a few hours of tlc she's now in excellent condition.

I also got out the sewing machine to make up a few re-mades from some gorgeous vintage chiffon and heavy cotton remnants in floral prints. Each fabric creates a very different drape, creating two completely different dresses despite the fact they're made from the same pattern.

I also developed a bit of a crush on tan leather saddle bags, in particular those that are beautifully tooled or painted. These are my favourites from this weeks finds.

The bag with the mice is particularly beautiful and special to me since I'm a lover of all things rodent. I did a bit or research and found out it was illustrated by a lady called Pauline Baynes, a book illustrator who has an archive of stunning work her most famous being the work she did for  The Chronicles of Narnia. Sadly she passed away a few years ago, making this bag even more of a treasure. I have a feeling this ones a keeper, but we'll see!

      ....................................................

Since I found Pauline's work so magical I thought it only right to share a few of my favourites:

Feeling Blue...

Some foggy mist has covered the Shire these past few days leaving me feeling nostalgic for blue skies. I drove over to Harrogate yesterday to visit the Discover Vintage Fair that was being held in the St George hotel. It was a lovely little fair full of beautiful items, it left me feeling all inspired. So today I pulled out my fabric stash and rummaged through it for all things blue, and got sewing to help beat the blues.
Here’s what I came up with. A gorgeous dress and two cute little tops, to add to the ever growing Re-made collection.

Re-made’s will be available to buy at Janey’s stall. They are new garments that are made from vintage remnants and reclaimed fabrics, with vintage trimmings and buttons too.
They‘re something a little different, but they still capture perfectly the essence of all things vintage, which Janey hearts.
